Health Insurance Medicaid Pages

The Challenge

With an update to the Medicaid pages, the layout also needed to be updated. For any page on a website, the more concise and simple the content, the more inviting and intuitive it’ll feel for the user. With this heath insurance company, there are three sets of pages for the Medicaid segment: ages 0-64, 18-64, and 65 and older. The pages are identical, so this case study will display only the age 0-64 page.

The Process

On the right is the former page for Medicaid plans age 0-64. Without going into the text you can see that it looks repetitive with the map, text block and CTA. This makes the page much longer than it has to be. To solve for this, I removed the repeated map, and inspected all the content to move anything repeated to the main information for the age group, then look at anything that is specific to the two different plan options. This gave me the opportunity to switch the information from vertical to horizontal as a side by side card.

The Finale

First glance, you can see the page looks a lot more cohesive. I was able to add a section for qualifications for medical assistance that still has the page feeling digestible and not overwhelming like the former version.

The purpose of having the cards side by side is to also give the user a more intuitive way to look at the options and compare without scrolling up and down to see what the differences might be. I was also able to give the map more space above the fold since it’s only on the page once.

I achieved conciseness, while still able to add more content. A win for both the stakeholders and for myself as a designer.
